How I can help

About me

Hi, I’m Frances, a qualified counsellor based in Plymouth, offering compassionate online support for grief, bereavement, pregnancy loss, pet loss, and other significant life changes.

How grief can feel

Grief can feel overwhelming, confusing, and deeply isolating. You may feel numb one moment and overcome with emotion the next, finding it hard to cope with everyday life or wondering whether what you’re feeling is “normal”.

You may be grieving someone who has died, living with an anticipated loss, or facing a life change that others around you don’t fully understand. Even when people care about you, grief can still feel very lonely.

There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and it is not something that needs to be “fixed”.

You don’t have to navigate this alone.

How I work with you

I offer a calm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can talk at your own pace, without pressure or expectations. My approach is warm, relational, and tailored to you as an individual.

What we can explore together

Together, we can gently explore what you’re going through and make space for whatever you may be experiencing – including sadness, anger, confusion, guilt, numbness, or the sense that life no longer feels the same.

We can also look at how things are affecting your day-to-day life and what support might feel most helpful for you.

What counselling can offer

Counselling can provide space to process painful emotions, make sense of your experience, and feel supported in a way that feels manageable for you. You do not need to have the “right” words or face everything alone.

Session details

Sessions take place online via video call or by telephone, offering a private and comfortable space wherever you are. Each session lasts 50 minutes, and we will usually meet weekly or at a pace that feels right for you.

Your first session

Your first session is a chance to talk about what’s brought you here, explore what support might feel helpful, and see whether working together feels like the right fit. There is no pressure to share anything before you feel ready, and you can decide how you would like to proceed after that session.

A gentle first step

I understand that reaching out to a therapist can take a great deal of courage, especially when life already feels overwhelming.

That’s why I offer a free, no-obligation introductory consultation, where we can gently talk about what’s going on for you, explore what you’re hoping for, and I can answer any questions you may have.

Starting counselling can sometimes feel daunting, particularly when you are already carrying so much emotionally. You do not need to have the “right” words, and there is no pressure to talk about everything straight away. Sessions move at your pace, and it is okay to pause, feel emotional, or feel unsure where to begin.

The first session is simply a chance for us to get to know each other and begin exploring what support may feel helpful for you. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and guided by your individual needs and experiences.

It’s also a chance to get a sense of how I work and what online grief counselling might feel like, so you can decide – at your own pace – whether it feels right for you.
